Our first pure in strain filly!

Update 11/05: The day we had been dreading has finally arrived. On October 3, 2005, just shy of 18 months of age, we made the sad decision to let GTS Thimaar go to a peaceful rest. She had broken her hip at the age of 2 weeks old, unbeknownst to us at that time, and displaced the fracture during a visit from our farrier. She had fallen, and never took a lame step or showed any problems at all, so we forgot about the fall. After the farrier visit, she was three legged lame. We called the vet, who thought that it was a stifle injury, and recommended stall rest with Mom for a couple of weeks. When Thimaar didn't improve, we scheduled an appointment at the NJ Equine Clinic in Millstone, NJ and Dr. Patty Hogan. (Smarty Jones' vet) X-rays revealed a fractured hip at the growth plate. Not good news, for sure. Dr. Hogan told us that we could take Thimaar home, keep her stalled for a few months and see if she could cope with her injury. We could always put her down, but once she was gone, obviously we couldn't bring her back. Dr. Hogan felt Thimaar wasn't in any pain, and that being young and a light breed rather than a Clydesdale that perhaps she could cope with her injury long enough for us to consider breeding her through AI and doing an embryo transfer in an effort to keep the bloodlines going. Unfortunately this was not to be. As Thimaar grew, and being unable to sleep on her feet, she had no choice but to lie down. And the strain of getting up with only one good back leg proved to be too much; she blew her stifle. So we made the sad choice of letting her go. She was a sweet filly, who always showed a lively curiousity for her surroundings, greeting me each morning with loud whinnys. She had type and refinement beyond both of her parents, and was very much all that I had hoped for in a filly from RB and Jerusha. Although with us for such a short time, she is very sorely missed.
